Starbucks coffee chain announced their release of a new, 31-oz coffee size. That’s right, “The Trenta” (okay, the name makes sense) is going to hit big today in select Southern U.S. markets, and could be making its debut in a Starbucks near you.

We REALLY like our coffee. Coffee chains have sprouted up all over the U.S. With over 11,000 stores in the U.S., Starbucks is a big leader and has proven that people enjoy a cup any time, while they’re on the go. Grabbing a 30-oz cup, however, might offer a lot of “get up,” but not much “go”–isn’t it kind of a burden to lug that big of a mug around?

Plus, some studies have shown that the larger the serving size, the more people consume. We already know that too much caffeine is not the best thing for a person’s health (Mr. CP has been trying to cut back on the buzz this year). Plus, with some of Starbucks’ coffee-based drinks being very high in fat, sugar and calories (a Venti Mocha is almost 500 calories–without whipped cream!), a larger size surely cannot be the best thing for those who are trying to find ways to cut back on caloric intake.

Speaking of things that cause bigger…uh…”rear views,” there is, however, a big “BUT”:

At roughly 50 cents more than a “Venti” size, The $2.50 Trenta does seem penny-wise vs. two 16-oz $1.60 “Grande” coffees. Snag one of those for you and a coworker or family member, and save a little bit of moolah at “The Bux.”

Quick reader poll: Do you think a bigger size of coffee makes “cents” or is 31 oz too many “drips” in the bucket?
