Easy Tips To Add Exercise To Your Life

Not everyone can spare a few hours a week at the gym or commit to vigorous exercise routines to the likes of P90x (if you have, my hats off to you!). For the rest of us, it makes sense to find creative ways to integrate exercise techniques into our everyday lives.

In fact, if you’re living a sedentary or “couch potato” lifestyle, you should know that you’re giving into the fourth leading risk factor for all global deaths, according to the World Health Organization. That’s about 3.2 million deaths per year, including 2.6 million in low- and middle-income countries. Obesity, diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases are all linked to the type of health styles we follow, so rather than exercising that remote control, let’s shape up our body and minds in ways that are both frugal and convenient. Check out these exercise routines you can incorporate on a daily basis:

During TV time
Commercials for the most part are not that interesting, so why not get up and do jumping jacks, sit-ups, or lunges? A commercial break is about 5 minutes long, so if you add those up in an hour- long show, you’ll complete about 15 minutes of exercise for the day. Sweet.

During morning hygiene
Your dentist recommends to brush for at least 2 minutes in the morning and at night, which makes it a perfect time for a wall squat! Kill two birds in one stone and shape up those thighs while you’re working towards a whiter smile.

During a phone call
Instead of sitting through a phone call, why not stand up and do a few calf workouts. Stand near a wall if you need a bit of balance for calf-raises. During the entire call, do as many as you can, or until you feel them burning towards greatness.

During your Grocery shopping
During your weekly grocery shopping trips, make it a game to grab your items as fast as you can. Power walk from the produce section to the laundry detergent aisle, and don’t feel silly about it, you’re an individual on a mission!

While cooking
Crank up some music, and dance while cooking dinner (caution: not while cutting or holding hot objects). While you’re waiting for the pasta to reach its perfect boiling point, move your body to your favorite tunes. You’ll get your blood pumping and even elevate your mood.

Before bed
Have yourself a quick stretch before bed. Stretching improves your circulation, posture, and overall range of motion. It feels good and conveniently helps you wind down after all that dancing while you were cooking. So do like a cat, and stretch those limbs!
